Haley Bennett's Early Life and Childhood

Haley Bennett was born in Fort Myers, Florida. This was on January 7, 1988. Her parents, Leilani and Ronald Keeling, met at church. They moved around a lot when Haley was young. Haley has family roots from Lithuania and Scotland. She grew up mostly in Naples, Florida.

When Haley was six, her parents divorced. She then moved to Ohio with her father. He opened a car repair shop there. They moved often within Ohio. Haley once said she never lived anywhere for more than two years. This made her feel like an outsider sometimes. But it also taught her not to worry about what others thought.

Haley described her childhood as "nomadic." She lived with her father in Ohio and her mother in Florida.

I lived somewhat of a nomadic life even when I lived in Ohio. We spent time in rural areas, in suburban areas, never really city areas. We rode four-wheelers. We had pigs and ferrets. And creeks. We had a creek in my backyard. It was like Huckleberry Finn... I was kind of a tomboy for awhile. It's tough to explain because I grew up with my mom and my dad simultaneously but separately because they weren't together. So I kind of get femininity from my mother and boyishness from my dad. He loved fishing, he loves hunting, he loves boating, and football, baseball, and basketball. So that really saturated my life. And then my mother was very soft and also strong, but more of an artist. So I kind of had the best of both worlds.

She enjoyed outdoor activities with her dad. She also learned about art from her mom.

When Haley was 10, she and her father moved to Stow, Ohio. She went to Stow-Munroe Falls High School. At 13, she started at Barbizon Modeling School. She also attended talent conventions. There, she won an important award. Haley acted in school plays and sang in choirs. She also spent time with her mother in Naples. There, she studied music and acting.

When Haley was 18, she wanted to become an actress. She convinced her mom to take her to Los Angeles. After three months, she was about to go home. But then she got a chance to meet an agent. She told the agent another big agency wanted her. The agent didn't want to lose her and signed her. Haley then started using her mother's old last name, Bennett, as her stage name.
