The Halfway River is a cool river located in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. It's a "tributary," which means it's a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. The Halfway River flows into the Peace River.

Journey of the Halfway River

The Halfway River starts its journey high up in the mountains, specifically in the Muskwa Ranges. This is about 1,500 meters (4,900 ft) above sea level!

Where the River Begins

The river actually begins from a place called Robb Lake. This lake is nestled between two mountains, Mount Kenny and Mount Robb. From there, the water starts flowing.

River's Path to the Peace River

After leaving Robb Lake, the Halfway River flows east towards a place called Pink Mountain. It then turns and flows south and southwest. For part of its journey, it runs right next to the famous Alaska Highway. Finally, the Halfway River joins the Peace River. This meeting point is near the towns of Hudson's Hope and Taylor, at an elevation of about 440 meters (1,440 ft).

Halfway River First Nation

The Halfway River is also very important to the Halfway River First Nation. This Indigenous community has their home and traditional lands right along the banks of the river. They have lived there for a very long time and have a deep connection to the river and its surroundings.
