The Hallowe'en was a famous iron clipper ship built in 1870. A clipper ship is a very fast sailing ship with tall masts and many sails. These ships were designed for speed, especially for carrying valuable cargo like tea across long distances.
The Hallowe'en weighed about 920 tons. It was built in Greenwich, England, by Maudslay, Son & Field. The ship was made for a company called Jock Willis & Sons. It was also a sister ship to another clipper called Blackadder.

A Delayed Start for the Hallowe'en
The Blackadder had some problems on its first trip. Its masts broke, which is called dismasting. Because of these issues, the Hallowe'en was not given to its owner, Willis, right away. There was a long legal disagreement that lasted for nearly 18 months after the ship was launched.
Record-Breaking Journeys
The Hallowe'en was known for being very fast, especially in light winds. It made many quick trips between China and the United Kingdom.
Fastest Tea Journey to London
In 1874–1875, the Hallowe'en made a record-breaking journey. It sailed from Shanghai, China, to London carrying a cargo of tea. This amazing trip took only 91 days. The ship arrived in London on January 20, 1875.
The Ship's Final Voyage
On January 17, 1887, the Hallowe'en was sailing from Fuzhou, China. It was once again loaded with tea. Sadly, the ship was wrecked in the English Channel. This happened near Soar Mill Cove, off Salcombe, in South Devon, England.
