Hamida Omarova (born 25 April 1957) is a famous Azerbaijani actress. She is known for her many roles in films and for being one of the most successful actresses in Azerbaijan during the 1980s.

Early Life and Education

Hamida Omarova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1957. Her parents, Mammad and Nasiba Omarov, were both teachers. They studied foreign languages at university. Hamida was one of four children, but sadly, three of her siblings passed away when they were babies.

When Hamida was born, her parents visited a special shrine in Qazakh. They named her Hamida after the shrine, hoping she would live a long life. Her parents divorced in 1960. Hamida was then raised by her mother and grandmother.

After finishing high school, Hamida started studying at Baku State University. She was studying philology, which is the study of language and literature. In 1975, during her first year, she entered a competition. Out of 300 people, she was one of only 15 chosen to study acting. This amazing opportunity was at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, Russia.

Acting Career and Achievements

Hamida Omarova's first acting role was in a short film called The Dentist in 1977. From then on, her career took off! She starred in more than 30 films. She became the most successful Azerbaijani actress of her time. Sometimes, she even worked on four movies at once!

In Russia, she is well-known for her role in the film Don't Be Afraid, I'm with You (1981). This movie was filmed in Gakh, Azerbaijan. Her acting in this film earned her many awards. She was even given the title of a People's Artist of Azerbaijan. This is a very high honor for an artist.

When the Soviet Union ended in 1991, Azerbaijan's movie industry faced tough times. This was a difficult period for Hamida's career and her personal life. After a time of sadness, she got married in 1992. She also had a son.

Even during these challenges, she continued to work. She hosted a late-night TV show called Retro. This show reviewed classic movies from Azerbaijan and other countries. In 2006, Hamida Omarova was chosen to be the President of the Azerbaijani Union of Cinematographers. This shows her important role in the film industry.
