Hamilton is a small community located in Perry Township, within Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather a group of homes and businesses.
Long ago, Hamilton and the nearby Valier area were important for coal mining. People even called it "Browntown" because of this! Today, you'll find a sandpaper factory called 3-H Abrasives here. Over the years, Hamilton has changed quite a bit. For example, a baseball field that a local person made for kids is now a cornfield.
A Glimpse into Hamilton's Past
Hamilton has a history stretching back many years. One important part of its past is the post office. It first opened in Hamilton way back in 1852. The very first person to be in charge of the post office, known as the postmaster, was a man named Robert Hamilton.
