Hamlin Grange is an African-Canadian journalist, speaker, and expert on diversity. He started a company called DiversiPro Inc. and also co-founded Innoversity. His work helps different groups of people work better together.
Early Life and School
Hamlin Grange was born in 1953 in Kingston, Jamaica. When he was 9 years old, his family moved to Canada.
He went to the University of Colorado at Boulder. He earned a degree in Journalism. He also studied African American history and how to do research. He went to college on a sports scholarship. Hamlin Grange is married to an author named Cynthia Reyes.
His Work
Hamlin Grange started his career as a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News. Later, he moved back to Canada. He became a managing editor at Contrast, a major newspaper for the Black community. He also worked as a reporter for the Toronto Star and Global TV.
In 1987, Grange joined the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC). He worked there until 2001. At CBC, he had many roles. He was an assignment editor, a reporter, a TV host, an interviewer, and a news anchor. He hosted shows like "Workweek" on TVOntario and "More to The Story" on CBC. He also hosted news programs on CBC's Newsworld.
For the past 20 years, Hamlin Grange has focused on helping companies. He works to make workplaces more welcoming for people from different backgrounds. This includes people from the Black community and Indigenous peoples. He trains organizations to have more diverse teams.
In 2000, he started DiversiPro Inc. This company helps businesses with diversity training. In the same year, he and his wife, Cynthia Reyes, founded Innoversity. Innoversity helps create job chances for people from different cultures, people with disabilities, and Indigenous Canadians.
Grange is also involved with several important groups. He helps manage the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). He used to be on the board of the YMCA and the Toronto Police Services Board. He is an Honorary Trustee of the Royal Ontario Museum. Today, he is on the board of the Samara Centre for Democracy. He is also the Chair of the Responsible Gambling Council.
