Hangu (Pashto: هنګو, Urdu: ہنگو) is a city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It's the biggest city and gives its name to Hangu District. Hangu is also the third-largest city in Kohat Division. In 2017, it was the 27th largest city in its province. Most people in Hangu speak Pashto.

Hangu has many public and private schools and colleges. A campus of the Agriculture University was planned for Hangu. However, this project is still waiting for funds.
The Government Degree College Hangu now offers a 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Honors program. This program is part of the Kohat University of Science and Technology.
There are two government high schools for boys and two for girls in Hangu. The first government high school was built in 1935. This was during the time of the British Raj. Many private schools also help promote education in the area.
What's in a Name? The Etymology of Hangu
The name Hangu might have come from Chinese travelers. There is a place in China called Hangu Pass. Many Chinese travelers passed through this area for centuries.
It is possible that travelers, like Hiuen Tsang, saw similarities with their own region. This might have led them to name the city 'Hangu'.
