The Hanna Building is a tall building, also called a high-rise, located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. You can find it in the exciting Theater District, right on the corner of East 14th Street and Euclid Avenue.

This impressive building stands 194 feet high and has 16 floors. It was built in 1921. Later, in 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical landmark! The Hanna Building is part of the famous Playhouse Square area. It shares many cool features with other theater buildings there, like news tickers and decorative designs. It's easy to spot in Playhouse Square. It's currently the third tallest building in the Theater District, just behind the B.F. Keith and the US Bank Centre. Like many buildings from its time, the Hanna Building is shaped a bit long and narrow. It runs alongside Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street.

Why is it Called the Hanna Building?

The building gets its name from a very important person named Mark Hanna. He was a powerful senator from Ohio around the turn of the 20th century. Mark Hanna was also a well-known businessman in Cleveland. He was famous for being generous with his money. So, it's not surprising that his family decided to build a skyscraper in Cleveland with his name on it, even after he passed away in 1904. Mark Hanna played a big part in bringing millions of dollars from the government to the Cleveland area. Today, the main Hanna Building still has offices.

The Hanna Annex: Homes and Theater

The Hanna Building also has a part called the Hanna Annex. This annex is home to the well-known Great Lakes Theater Festival. This group performs in the cozy Hanna Theater, which is owned by Playhouse Square.

In 2012, a company called K & D Group announced exciting plans. They decided to change and update the Hanna Annex. They turned it into 102 apartments, which were ready for people to move into in 2014. These apartments are located along Prospect Avenue, a main street in Cleveland. From the apartments, you can look out south towards Playhouse Square or west towards the rest of downtown Cleveland. The K & D Group, which now runs these apartments, owns many properties in the Greater Cleveland area.
