About Hans-Joachim Gelberg

Hans-Joachim Gelberg was born in Dortmund, Germany. Later, he lived in Weinheim, a town in Baden-Württemberg.

In 1971, Gelberg started a special series of children's books called Beltz & Gelberg. This was part of a bigger publishing company. He began with just eight books, but in 25 years, this series grew to include over 1000 different titles!

Gelberg worked with many other talented writers and illustrators. These included Achim Bröger [de], Janosch, and Peter Härtling. He also published books by authors like Josef Guggenmos [de], Christine Nöstlinger, and Rafik Schami. He even taught at the University of Frankfurt.

In 2011, he put together a collection of poems for children. It was called Wo kommen die Worte her? (Where do the words come from?). This book had poems written just for it by over 100 authors. It also included older poems by famous writers like Christian Morgenstern.
