Hans Schneider (born January 24, 1927 – died October 28, 2014) was a very smart mathematician. He was born in Austria and later became an American citizen. He taught math as a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was known for his important work with matrices and linear algebra.

He was the first president of a group called the International Matrix Group (from 1987 to 1990). This group later changed its name to the International Linear Algebra Society (from 1990 to 1996), and he was its president too.

Hans Schneider also helped start a math magazine called Linear Algebra and Its Applications. He was an editor for many years, from 1968 to 2012. He also helped with another online math journal called the Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra.
