At its biggest, Happy Chef had 65 restaurants. These locations were spread across the Midwest region. Nearly 3,000 people worked for Happy Chef restaurants. However, over the years, people's tastes changed. They started wanting different kinds of restaurants. Because of this, Happy Chef's owner decided to sell or lease most of the restaurants. Only the first restaurant in Mankato remained. This original location is still open and serving customers today.
