Taran Kaur Dhillon (born 29 July 1979), known by her stage name Hard Kaur, is a British-Indian rapper and hip hop singer. She is also an actress who has worked in the Bollywood film industry.

Early Life and Moving to the UK

Hard Kaur was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, on 29 July 1979. Her birth name is Taran Kaur Dhillon. She grew up in Kanpur, where her mother ran a small beauty salon. Her family faced a very difficult time when her father passed away during a period of unrest in 1984.

After this, she, her brother, and her mother moved to Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. They lived with her maternal grandparents for a few years. In 1991, her mother remarried a British citizen. Her family then moved to Birmingham, England.

In England, her mother worked hard and studied to open her own beauty salon. Hard Kaur went to school there as an Indian immigrant. She soon became very interested in hip-hop music. This interest led her to start her career as a rapper.

Music and Film Career

Hard Kaur began her music journey by recording the song "Ek Glassy." This song became very popular in the UK. In 2007, she rapped for the movie Johnny Gaddaar on the song "Paisa Phek (Move Your Body)." This was a big step for her in Bollywood.

Since then, she has sung in many other movies. Some of these include Ugly Aur Pagli ("Talli"), Singh Is Kinng, Kismat Konnection, and Bachna Ae Haseeno. She also sang in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Prince.

In 2008, Hard Kaur performed at the Live Earth India concert. This event aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues.

Her first solo album, called Supawoman, was released in 2007. It was a big success for her.

In 2008, Hard Kaur received two nominations at the UK Asian Music Awards. She was nominated for "Best Urban Act" and "Best Female Act." She won the award for "Best Female Act."

In October 2012, Hard Kaur released her second music album. It was titled Party Loud All Year: P.L.A.Y. She worked with Sony Music to produce this album. All ten songs on the album were written and composed by her. The song Mujhe Peeney do became very popular from this album.

In 2013, she worked with composer Ram Sampath and folk singer Bhanvari Devi. They created a song for Coke Studio India. Hard Kaur also wrote a song called "Karle Tu Voting" to encourage people to vote during elections. She even composed a song for the FIFA World Cup, named "Goal Mar Goal Mar." This song was sung in several languages. In the same year, she also collaborated with the American hip hop group D12 on a song called "Desi Dance."
