Harmony Heights is located in the middle of Yadkin County, North Carolina. It's a community that doesn't have its own town government. Instead, it's part of the larger county area. The main road through Harmony Heights is Old US 421, also known as West Main Street. It stretches for about half a mile, starting from Booger Swamp Road.
A Look Back at Harmony Heights
Long ago, Harmony Heights was a busy and growing community. Many businesses called this area home. It was a place where people could find many services they needed.
Businesses That Shaped the Area
Some of the important businesses in early Harmony Heights included:
- Harmony Heights Lumber Company, which likely helped build homes and other structures.
- Harmony Heights Animal Hospital, a place where pets could get care.
- Welborn Chevrolet, a car dealership where people could buy new vehicles.
- Jabe Joyner's Barber Shop, where people went for haircuts.
- An Esso gas station, where drivers could fill up their cars.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, some businesses moved or closed. For example, the Yadkin Valley Telephone Membership Corp. (YVTMC) moved to Harmony Heights in the 1960s. This company provides phone services to the area. In 1980, YVTMC moved again to a new location in Courtney.
After YVTMC left, Duke Power moved into the old building. Duke Power is a company that provides electricity. They operated from Harmony Heights for a while. However, in the early 1990s, Duke Power also moved its operations. They went to Jonesville.
Today, the property where YVTMC and Duke Power once were is owned by the Yadkin Valley Economic Development District Inc. This organization works to help the local economy grow.
Harmony Heights Today
While many businesses have moved, one still keeps the original community name. The Harmony Heights Animal Hospital moved in the 1990s. It is now located at 220 Pollywood Lane in Yadkinville. It's the only business still using the "Harmony Heights" name from its original home.
