Harned is a small place in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own city government like a big town would. Harned is found along U.S. Route 60, which is a major road. It's about 3.2 miles (5.1 km) southeast of a town called Hardinsburg. Harned even has its own post office with the ZIP code 40144.
History of Harned
Harned started with a different name, Layman, when its first post office opened on June 6, 1890. Just six months later, the community got its current name, Harned.
The name change honored Henry Harned. He was an important local land owner. Henry Harned came from Virginia and moved to the area after the Civil War. He generously gave land for the train station. He also provided a path for the Louisville, Hardinsburg & Western Railroad.
