Harry Clay Davis (born February 5, 1841 – died July 9, 1929) was an American soldier. He fought bravely in the American Civil War. Davis received the country's highest award for courage during combat, the Medal of Honor. He earned this honor for his actions during the Battle of Ezra Church in Atlanta, Georgia. This happened on July 28, 1864. He was given the award on December 2, 1864.
A Soldier's Life
Harry Clay Davis was born in Franklin County, Ohio, on February 5, 1841. When the American Civil War began, he joined the Union Army. He became a private in Company G of the 46th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. This unit was part of the Union Army, fighting to keep the United States together.
Bravery at Ezra Church
During the war, Harry Davis showed incredible bravery. On July 28, 1864, his unit was fighting in a big battle. This battle was known as the Battle of Ezra Church. It took place near Atlanta, Georgia. For his heroic actions during this fight, Harry Davis was given the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award a soldier can receive for bravery. He was officially honored with the award on December 2, 1864.
Later Life
After the war, Harry Clay Davis lived a long life. He passed away on July 9, 1929. He was buried in California at the Pomona Cemetery and Mausoleum.
