Henry Anthony Hood (born October 3, 1944 – died May 26, 2019) was a talented Scottish football player. He was also a manager later in his career. Harry, as he was known, was a skilled forward. He played for several teams in Scotland, including Clyde, Celtic, Motherwell, and Queen of the South. He also played for Sunderland in England and San Antonio Thunder in the United States.
Harry Hood won many awards with Celtic, collecting eleven major trophies. After his playing days, he managed Albion Rovers and Queen of the South. He also became a successful businessman.

Harry Hood's Football Career
Playing for Clubs
Harry Hood was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in the area called Garthamlock. His older brother, Jackie, was also a footballer. Harry started his career at a local club called St Roch's.
In 1962, when he was 18, Harry joined Clyde. He made his debut in the Scottish Division One. Clyde was later moved down to a lower league. But Harry played very well there. He scored 37 goals in 45 games during the 1963–64 season. This helped Clyde get promoted back to the top league.
His great playing continued, and in 1964, he moved to the English club Sunderland. Sunderland paid £30,000 for him. Early on, Harry scored the only goal in a game against Manchester United. He later returned to Clyde in 1966. The 1966–67 Scottish Division One season was one of Clyde's best. They finished third in the league.
Joining Celtic
In March 1969, Harry Hood joined Celtic for £40,000. He quickly became an important player for the team. Celtic was managed by the famous Jock Stein. The team included legendary players like the Lisbon Lions. It also had rising young stars like Kenny Dalglish.
Harry helped Celtic reach the 1970 European Cup Final. However, he was not chosen to play in the final game. Celtic lost that match to Feyenoord. He scored the winning goal against Rangers in the 1971 Scottish Cup Final replay. Celtic won that game 2–1. He also scored the first goal in the 1974 Scottish Cup Final. Celtic won that match 3–0 against Dundee United.
With Celtic, Harry Hood won many titles. He won six Scottish league championships. He also won three Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups. He scored a total of 123 goals for the club. Fans at Parkhead would often cheer him with a special chant. Harry scored three goals in a game against Rangers in 1973. This is called a hat-trick. It was a rare achievement at the time.
Later Clubs
Harry left Celtic in 1976. He then played for San Antonio Thunder in the United States. After that, he had a short time with Motherwell. He finished his playing career with Queen of the South in 1978.
After retiring as a player, Harry became a manager. He managed Albion Rovers. Then, in 1981, he returned to Queen of the South as their manager.
Playing for Scotland
In 1967, Harry Hood was part of a special Scotland national team. They went on a tour to places like Israel, Australia, and Canada. They won every game they played. For many years, these games were not officially counted as full international matches.
However, in October 2021, the Scottish Football Association changed its mind. They decided that some of these tour matches would be counted as full international games. This meant that Harry Hood was officially given an international cap for Scotland. This happened after he had passed away.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing and managing football, Harry Hood started a business. His company was called Lisini. It was named after his three children. The company owned and ran several pubs and restaurants. These were located around the Greater Glasgow area.
In 2012, Harry was honored by Clyde FC. He was added to their Hall of Fame. This recognized his great contributions to the club.
Harry Hood sadly passed away on May 26, 2019. He was 74 years old. He had been battling cancer.
