Harry LaRosiliere, born on May 6, 1962, was the 39th mayor of Plano, Texas. He made history as the first African-American person to hold this important position. He was first elected in 2013 and served two terms until 2021, when he reached the limit for how long a mayor can serve.

Early Life and Education

Harry LaRosiliere was born in Haiti, a country in the Caribbean. He grew up in Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City. For his schooling, he attended Corpus Christi Catholic School and Cardinal Hayes High School. After high school, he went to the City College of New York. He graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology, which is the study of Earth's physical structure and substances.

Moving to Texas and Public Service

In 1994, LaRosiliere moved to Texas. There, he started a career as a financial advisor, helping people manage their money. He became involved in local government, serving on the Plano City Council for two terms. This was from 2005 to 2011. He also worked as a planning and zoning commissioner, helping to decide how land in the city could be used.

In 2013, Harry LaRosiliere ran for mayor of Plano. He won the election, defeating Fred Moses, who was the chairman of the Republican Party in Collin County. He was reelected for a second term in 2017. As mayor, he worked to lead the city and make decisions for its residents. His time as mayor ended in 2021.

Family Life

Harry LaRosiliere is married to Tracy LaRosiliere, whose maiden name was Clark. They have two daughters together. He is a member of the Catholic faith.
