The Hartford Building is a tall office building in downtown Dallas, Texas, USA. It's right next to the St. Paul train station in the city's main center.
Building History
This office building cost about $5 million to build. It was constructed when many insurance companies were growing fast in Dallas. The Hartford Building became the main office for the Hartford Fire Insurance Group in the southwestern United States.
It was built by Trammell Crow and Eugene Locke. The building first opened its doors in 1960.
Construction Incident
Something unusual happened during its construction in 1959. A steel beam, about 20-foot (6.1 m) long, and a brick fell from an upper floor. The beam crashed through a truck and got stuck in the street below. The brick bounced off another car. Amazingly, no one was hurt in this accident!
Building Changes
The Hartford Building originally had a large garage with 400 parking spaces. In 1981, this garage was replaced. A new shared garage was built for the nearby Patriot Tower and the Hartford Building.
The building has been sold several times over the years. It changed owners in 1961, 1967, 1994, and 2013.
