Hartwig Löger was born on July 15, 1965. He is an Austrian politician and used to be a top manager in business. From 2017 to 2019, he was the Minister of Finance for Austria. Before that, from 2011 to 2017, he was the main boss (Chief Executive Officer) of a big company called UNIQA Austria.
In May 2019, after some political events, he became the Vice-Chancellor. A few days later, he was sworn in as the acting Chancellor. This happened after the government faced a "vote of no confidence," which means the parliament decided they no longer supported the government. He left this temporary role in June 2019.

Early Life and Learning
Hartwig Löger was born in a place called Selzthal in Styria, Austria. He finished high school in 1983.
He first wanted to become a pilot and even started training for it in the Austrian army. However, a knee injury stopped him from passing the pilot exam. Because of this, he ended up working in the insurance business.
In 1987 and 1988, he took a course about the insurance industry at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Later, from 1999 to 2001, he completed a special international management course at the University of St. Gallen.
His Work History
From 1985 to 1989, Löger worked as an adviser for an insurance company. After that, he joined Allianz and worked there until 1996 as a sales manager. He then worked for other insurance companies, including Grazer Wechselseitige and Donau Versicherung AG, as a sales manager.
From 2002 to 2017, he worked for the Uniqa Insurance Group. He started as a managing director and later became the head of sales. In 2011, he became a senior manager at UNIQA and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UNIQA Austria. This means he was the main leader of the company in Austria. He left this role in December 2017.
Besides his business career, Löger was also the president of the Sports Union from 2014 to 2018. Since 2011, he has been involved with the business part of the People's Party in Vienna.
His Political Journey
Hartwig Löger served as the Minister of Finance in the government led by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. He was chosen for this important job by the People's Party.
As Minister of Finance, he was also part of a special committee. This committee helped decide who would be on the boards of companies that the Austrian government partly owned.
Other Important Roles
Hartwig Löger also took part in several important international groups during his time as Minister of Finance. These included:
- Working with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which are big financial organizations in Europe.
- Being involved with international banks like the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the World Bank. These banks help countries around the world with money for development.
He also helped with non-profit organizations, such as being the President of the Circle of Friends for the Kunsthistorisches Museum (a famous art museum) and Vice President of KURIER Aid Austria.
