Hartwood is a small place in Stafford County, which is part of the state of Virginia. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town does.
You can find Hartwood about 15 miles northwest of Fredericksburg. There used to be an airport nearby called Hartwood Airport, but it is no longer in use.
History of Hartwood
Hartwood has a long history. A post office, which helps send and receive mail, has been open in Hartwood since 1832. That's almost 200 years!
The name "Hartwood" comes from something special. Early settlers in the area saw many harts (which are male deer) in the woods. So, they decided to name their community "Hartwood."
Two important places in Hartwood are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important to American history. These places are Hartwood Manor and Hartwood Presbyterian Church.
