Harvey Lee Catchings was a talented American basketball player who played professionally. He was born on September 2, 1951.

He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1974 to 1985. During his career, he played for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Harvey Catchings was known for his defense. He averaged 3.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game in his NBA career. He once scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a game against the Indiana Pacers on December 18, 1976. He also blocked 5 shots in just 16 minutes during a playoff game on April 10, 1981.

He is one of only 43 NBA players to have ever recorded at least 10 blocks in a single game. He helped his teams reach the Eastern Conference Finals three times. He also made it to the NBA Finals once with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1976-77 NBA season.

Family Life and Connections

Harvey Catchings has a famous family! His daughter, Tamika Catchings, was a huge star in the WNBA. She played for the Indiana Fever and is one of the best players ever.

His other daughter, Tauja, also played college basketball for Illinois. Harvey's grandson, Kanon Catchings, is a highly-rated young basketball player who has committed to play for BYU in 2024.

Harvey and his daughter Tamika are both Christian.

Harvey Catchings was good friends with his former 76ers teammate, Joe Bryant. Their families spent time together when they both played basketball in Italy. Because of this, Harvey's children were childhood friends with Joe's son, Kobe Bryant, who became one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
