The Harz is a rural district located in Saxony-Anhalt, a state in Germany. It's a beautiful area known for its mountains and forests, making it a great place for outdoor adventures.
History of the Harz District
The Harz district was created not too long ago, in 2007. This happened as part of a big change across Germany to make districts work better.
Before 2007, the area was made up of several smaller districts. These included the old districts of Halberstadt, Wernigerode, and Quedlinburg. The city of Falkenstein also joined, coming from a different district called Aschersleben-Staßfurt.
By joining these areas together, the new Harz district became bigger. This helped to manage the region more easily.
Towns and Communities in Harz
A district like Harz is made up of many different towns and smaller communities. These places work together to run the district.
Some of the main towns in the Harz district are:
- Elbingerode
- Falkenstein
- Halberstadt
- Quedlinburg
- Wernigerode
These towns and other communities help make the Harz district a lively and important part of Saxony-Anhalt.
