Hasan Tahsin was the code name for a brave Turkish journalist named Osman Nevres. He was born in 1888 and sadly passed away on May 15, 1919. He is remembered as a Turkish hero and a strong supporter of his country.

Hasan Tahsin was a journalist who wrote for a newspaper called Hukuk-u Beşer. This name means Human Rights in the old Ottoman Turkish language. He believed in fighting for what was right.

Who Was Hasan Tahsin?

Hasan Tahsin is seen as a hero in Turkey. The Turkish military even named an information center after him. This shows how important he is to the country's history.

He was part of a group called the Ottoman Special Organization. This group worked to protect the Ottoman Empire.

A Secret Mission

During World War I, Hasan Tahsin went on a mission in Romania. He tried to stop two people named Noel and Charles Roden Buxton. His attempt was not successful.

Because of this, he was put in prison for five years. However, he was released early. This happened when German soldiers took control of Romania during the war.

A Defining Moment

Hasan Tahsin is most famous for an event that happened on May 15, 1919. On this day, Greek soldiers arrived in Smyrna, which is now called İzmir. This was the start of a long period when Greek forces occupied parts of western Anatolia.

As the Greek soldiers landed, Hasan Tahsin bravely shot at them. He hit the soldier who was carrying their flag. This act marked the beginning of the Greco-Turkish War.

Sadly, Hasan Tahsin was killed right there on the spot. He died on the same day, May 15, 1919. His actions made him a symbol of Turkish resistance.
