History of Hatillo

Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War in 1898. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Hatillo, like the rest of Puerto Rico, became a U.S. territory.

In 1899, the U.S. government counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that Hatillo and a nearby barrio called Caracol had a total of 1,030 people living there.
