Hawa Yakubu Ogede (born March 24, 1948 – died March 20, 2007) was an important Ghanaian politician. She was a Member of Parliament in Ghana, which means she was elected to help make laws for the country. She also served as a Minister for Tourism.

Early Life and Education
Hawa Yakubu was born in Tarkwa, a town in the Western Region of Ghana. Her family came from Pusiga in the Upper East Region. Hawa Yakubu was a member of the Bissa ethnic group. She helped start the yearly Zekula festival for her people.
Schooling and Diploma
Hawa Yakubu went to Zebilla Middle School for her early education. She then attended Navrongo Secondary School. Later, she studied at the Accra Polytechnic, which is now called the Accra Technical University. There, she earned a diploma in Institutional Management.
Career Before Politics
Before she became a politician, Hawa Yakubu worked as a domestic bursar. A bursar is someone who manages money and supplies for an institution, like a school. She was also a businesswoman, running her own ventures.
Political Journey
Hawa Yakubu began her political journey in 1979. She was elected without opposition to her local council. She was the youngest person in the group that wrote the constitution for Ghana's Third Republic. A constitution is a set of rules that a country is governed by.
Early Political Roles
In 1979, Hawa Yakubu also became the Women's Leader for the United National Convention party. In 1981, a military coup happened in Ghana, which meant the military took control of the government. Because of this, she had to leave Ghana. She lived in voluntary exile in London and later Nigeria until 1991.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Hawa Yakubu returned to Ghana in 1991. The next year, she ran for a seat in parliament for the Bawku Central area. She won the election, even though she ran as an independent candidate, meaning she wasn't part of a major political party. She became a Member of Parliament on January 7, 1993.
She later lost her seat and moved to Cotonou, Benin. She lived there until the year 2000.
Return to Parliament and Minister Role
In 2000, Hawa Yakubu came back to Ghana and won her parliament seat again. From 2001 to 2002, President John Kufuor appointed her as the Minister of Tourism. This meant she was in charge of promoting tourism in Ghana.
During this time, she also represented Ghana in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament. ECOWAS is a group of West African countries that work together. Hawa Yakubu lost her parliament seat in 2004.
Death
Hawa Yakubu passed away on March 20, 2007, in London, England. She had been battling cancer for some time and had sought treatment in London and South Africa. She is survived by her three children: Derek Ayebo, Amanda Ogede, and Didi Ogede.
