Hawick Lau Hoi-wai is a famous actor and singer from Hong Kong. He was born on October 13, 1974. He became well-known for his roles in TV shows like A Kindred Spirit and Virtues of Harmony. Later, he also became very popular in mainland China. He starred in many successful TV series there, such as Sealed with a Kiss and Lady & Liar.

Early Life and Education
Hawick Lau grew up in Hong Kong. His father, Lau Dan, is also a well-known actor. Hawick went to Ryerson University in Canada. He studied architecture there.
Acting and Singing Career
Hawick Lau started his acting career in 1995. His first drama was A Kindred Spirit. In this show, he acted alongside his father, Lau Dan. They even played father and son in the story. In the same year, he also signed with Sony Music in Hong Kong to become a singer.
In 1997, he released his first Chinese music album. The next year, he released his first Cantonese album.
Hawick continued acting in Hong Kong TV shows. He became more and more famous. In 2000, he starred in a youth drama called Aiming High. He also had a role in the financial thriller At the Threshold of an Era. From 2001 to 2002, he was in the historical comedy Virtues of Harmony. He acted with his father again in this show. In 2005, he got his first main role in the drama My Family.
TVB, a big TV network, named him one of their "5 Fresh Tigers." This meant he was a promising young actor they wanted to help become a big star.
Moving to Mainland China
After becoming successful in Hong Kong, Hawick Lau decided to try acting in mainland China. He also worked in Taiwan and Singapore. His first mainland Chinese show was The Hui Merchants of Qing, which aired in 2007. He also starred in a Singaporean show called Destiny.
In 2006, Hawick signed with ATV, another TV station in Hong Kong. He wanted to focus on the Chinese market. He started speaking Mandarin Chinese in his media appearances. This helped him connect with Chinese audiences. He gained attention for his role in the 2008 drama Royal Embroidery Workshop.
In 2009, he won the Best Actor Award at the Jiangsu TV Drama Awards for his role in Niang Qi.
Rising Popularity
In 2011, Hawick Lau became very popular after starring in the romantic drama Sealed With a Kiss. People really liked his character, Mo Shaoqian. He also acted with Wallace Chung in Under The Bodhi Tree.
In 2012, Hawick starred in the romantic comedy movie Holding Love. He acted alongside Yang Mi. The movie was released on Chinese Valentine's Day and was very popular. He worked with Yang Mi again in the drama Ru Yi.
Hawick then started his own production studio. He became a producer for the first time with the drama A Clear Midsummer Night. This show aired in 2013 and quickly became very popular. It was the first drama in 2013 to get over 100 million views. He also starred in the TV version of the movie Painted Skin: The Resurrection. His acting in this series won him the Best Actor award at the 13th Huading Awards. He also returned to TVB for a Hong Kong-China show called Master of Destiny.
In 2014, he starred with Zhao Liying in the drama The Wife's Secret.
In 2015, Hawick Lau acted with Tiffany Tang in Lady & Liar. This show became the most-watched period drama online. His character, Bai Zhengqing, was very popular. He also starred in The Cage of Love and Twice Bloom the Flower.
In 2016, Hawick starred in Chronicle of Life, playing the Kangxi Emperor. This series was very successful. His studio's second production, Road to the North, also premiered. He then starred in The Legend of Flying Daggers.
In 2017, Hawick starred in the family drama Full Love and the legal drama Heirs. In 2018, he took the main role in the fantasy drama The Legend of Jade Sword.
In October 2019, his contract with Jaywalk Studio ended. In 2020, Hawick Lau starred with Chen Duling in The Invisible Life. This modern drama was about women's challenges in the workplace.
Personal Life
Hawick Lau announced he was in a relationship with Chinese actress Yang Mi on January 8, 2012. They had acted together in several shows, including Ru Yi and Holding Love.
Hawick and Yang Mi got married in Bali, Indonesia, on January 8, 2014. On June 1, 2014, their daughter was born in Hong Kong. They nicknamed her Little Sticky Rice.
On December 22, 2018, Hawick Lau and Yang Mi announced that they had divorced.
