Yang Mi (born September 12, 1986) is a famous Chinese actress and singer. She became well-known for her roles in TV shows like The Return of the Condor Heroes (2006) and Chinese Paladin 3 (2009).
Her big breakthrough came with the time-travel TV drama Palace 1 (2011). She also starred in the hit movie Mysterious Island (2011). Many people say she helped start the "fan economy" in China's entertainment world.
Yang Mi has also starred in many other popular TV dramas. These include Beijing Love Story (2012), Eternal Love (2017), and Legend of Fuyao (2018). She was also in the movie series Tiny Times (2013-2015).
In 2013, she was named one of the New Four Dan Actresses. This is a special title for top young actresses in China.

Early Life and Education
Yang Mi was born in Beijing, China. Her father was a police officer and her mother was a housewife. She was given the name "Mi" (幂) because both her parents had the same last name, Yang. The character "Mi" means "exponentiation" in math, which is like multiplying a number by itself.
She went to Beijing Xuanwu Experimental Primary School. Later, she studied at the Beijing Film Academy. This is a famous school for actors and filmmakers.

Starting Out in Acting
Yang Mi began acting at a very young age. In 1990, when she was just four years old, she appeared in a TV show called Tang Ming Huang. She played a young princess.
She also had a small role in the movie King of Beggars (1992). This film starred the famous actor Stephen Chow. After a break, Yang Mi returned to acting in 2003. She got her first main role in The Story of a Noble Family.
Becoming More Popular
In the late 2000s, Yang Mi started to get more attention. She played Nie Xiaoqian in Strange Tales of Liaozhai (2005). She also played Guo Xiang in The Return of the Condor Heroes (2006).
In 2007, she played the main character in Wang Zhaojun. This TV show was about a famous historical figure. Her acting was praised, and she was nominated for a top award.
In 2009, Yang Mi starred in Chinese Paladin 3. She played two different characters in this fantasy drama. The show was a big success in China, and her popularity grew a lot.
Big Success and New Roles
In 2011, Yang Mi became very famous with the TV drama Palace. She played a girl who travels back in time. Fans loved the show, and she won an award for Most Popular Actress. She also sang the theme song, which became a hit.
That same year, she starred in the horror movie Mysterious Island. The movie earned a lot of money and was very successful.

Family Life
In 2012, Yang Mi shared that she was in a relationship with Hong Kong actor and singer Hawick Lau. They got married in Bali, Indonesia, on January 8, 2014. On June 1, 2014, they welcomed their daughter. Yang Mi and Hawick Lau announced their divorce in December 2018.
Public Stance
In March 2021, Yang Mi ended her partnership with Adidas. This happened after some companies decided not to use cotton from the Xinjiang region. This was due to concerns about how the cotton was produced. Many other Chinese celebrities also took similar actions.
