Haycock Island is a small island located in Far North Queensland, Australia. It sits in Trinity Bay, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the city of Cairns. You can find it northeast of Palm Cove.
Haycock Island is very close to Double Island. It is only a few hundred meters southeast of its neighbor.
How Haycock Island Was Formed
Haycock Island was created by a huge natural event. A powerful earthquake caused the ground to move a lot. This pushed up parts of the Earth's tectonic plates.
You can still see how this happened. The rocks on the island stick up from the ocean at very steep angles. This shows the massive force that lifted them long ago.
About Haycock Island
Haycock Island has no people living on it. There is also no source of fresh water on the island. This makes it a tough place for humans to survive.
The island has a fun nickname: the Scout's Hat. This is because it looks like a very large scout hat when seen from a distance.
Wildlife on Haycock Island
Even though no humans live there, Haycock Island is important for wildlife. It is a special place for Bridled Terns. These birds use the island as a safe spot to build their nests.
