School History
Hayes School started in 1956. It began as a separate school from the local church school in Hayes village. When it first opened, only boys attended the school. The main building was an old Victorian mansion called Gadsden. Today, Gadsden is still used for the school's reception and offices.
Soon after opening, Hayes School welcomed both boys and girls. Most of the school moved into a new building called A Block. Over the years, the school grew a lot. A new C Block opened in 2003, which included a modern library and a much better music department. In 2006, the L Block was added. The school celebrated its 50th birthday that year with a fun fair.
In 2010, the M Block was built. This new building provides space for subjects like Media Studies, Drama, and the school library. On April 1, 2011, Hayes School officially became an academy. This means it has more freedom in how it operates. The school has been inspected by Ofsted, which checks how good schools are. In both 2011 and 2013, Hayes School was rated as "Outstanding."
School Buildings
Hayes School has ten different buildings, or "blocks," where students learn. These are named A, B, C, D, E, G, H, L, M, and S. The newest block, M, opened in 2010. Most of these blocks have two floors.
Learning in A Block
A Block is where all the science classes happen. This includes subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics.
Learning in B Block
B Block is used for several subjects. On the ground floor, you'll find Design Technology. Upstairs, most of the rooms are for Art classes. There's also one classroom used for Information Technology.
Learning in C Block
C Block has two floors. The lower floor is used for Music, Business Studies, Drama, Psychology, and Sociology. The first floor is for IT classes. It also has three music practice rooms, a recording studio, and a storage room for musical instruments.

The lower floor of D Block is for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). All students learn French, and some also learn German or Spanish. The first floor is for Humanities subjects like History, Religious Education, and Geography. It also hosts Social Sciences, including Politics, Sociology, Law, and Psychology. At the end of D Block, there's a special study center for Sixth Form students. It has a common room with a canteen and a quiet study room with computers.
Learning in E Block
E Block is home to the Dance Studio, where students can practice their dance moves.
Learning in G Block (Gadsden)
Gadsden is an old house that has been updated. It now has two reception areas, one for visitors and one for students. Many school offices are located here. There's also a medical room on the bottom floor, near the Student Reception.
Learning in H Block (The Huts)
H Block, also known as 'The Huts,' has several classrooms. H1 is used for Spanish and Geography. H2 is a quiet space for counseling and student support. H3 and H4 are part of the Bromley School Collegiate teaching school. H5 and H6 are study areas for Sixth Form students.
