A Look Back: How Haymarket Bus Station Grew
The first Haymarket bus station was built in 1994. It cost about £2 million to build. This happened at the same time the Haymarket Shopping Centre next door was also being updated.
In January 2015, the bus station closed for a big redevelopment. The plan was to make it twice as big! The brand new, much larger bus station officially opened in May 2016.
What Buses Can You Catch Here?
Haymarket bus station is open every day of the week. It's mainly used for local bus services.
You can catch buses from companies like:
- Arriva Midlands
- Centrebus

There's also the Stagecoach Midlands X7 service, which goes all the way to Northampton.
The special "Hop!" bus service also stops just outside the station on Belgrave Gate. This bus goes in a circle around the city.
What's Inside? Handy Facilities
The main offices for Leicester Shopmobility are located inside the station. You can find them near the Belgrave Gate entrance. Shopmobility helps people who need wheelchairs or scooters to get around. There's also a smaller Shopmobility office inside Highcross Leicester.
The bus station also has public toilets. These have been recently updated to be modern and clean. There are also special changing places facilities, which are very helpful for people with certain needs.
