Hays is a small community located in Blaine County, Montana, in the United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city. In 2020, about 996 people lived there.
Hays is found inside the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. This reservation is home to both the Assiniboine people and the Gros Ventre people. The community of Hays itself is mainly home to the Gros Ventre people. A nearby community called Lodge Pole is located to the east.
The town was named after a person known as Major Hays. An important church, St. Paul's Mission Church, was built in Hays in 1887 by the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions.
