Hayward is a small community located in Pemiscot County, Missouri, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area the U.S. Census Bureau identifies for collecting population data. It is not an officially incorporated city or town with its own local government. In 2010, the population of Hayward was 131 people.

History of Hayward

Hayward has an interesting past. It was once called "Fisher," named after an early settler named John J. Fisher. A post office opened there under the name Fisher in 1880.

Later, the community's name changed to Hayward, honoring another early citizen. The post office was renamed Hayward in 1895. For a while, Hayward was an official village, but in 2000, it stopped being an incorporated village. Now, it is an unincorporated community, meaning it doesn't have its own separate local government, but it's still recognized as a place where people live by the Census Bureau.

What the 2010 Census Showed

A census is like a big count of all the people living in an area. The 2010 census found that 131 people lived in Hayward. These people lived in 49 different homes, and 39 of these were families.

The community was mostly made up of people who identified as White (99.24%). A very small percentage (0.76%) identified as being from two or more races.

In terms of homes, about 36.7% of households had children under 18 living there. Many homes (59.2%) were married couples living together. Some homes had a female head of household without a husband (12.2%), and a few had a male head of household without a wife (8.2%). About 20.4% of households were not families.
