Hazlina Abdul Halim (born 17 February 1985) is a politician from Singapore. She used to be a broadcast journalist. Hazlina is a member of the People's Action Party (PAP). She became a Member of Parliament for the Fengshan area in East Coast GRC in 2025.
She works as a Senior Vice President at a big advisory company. Before this, she was the CEO of Make-A-Wish Singapore. This is a charity that helps children.
Before that, Hazlina was a Public Affairs Advisor. She was also a news presenter and editor at Mediacorp. This is Singapore's main media company. She presented Malay TV News Berita on Suria. She was also an Assignments Editor for Channel NewsAsia.
Early Life and School
Hazlina was born in Singapore. She can speak English and Malay very well. She also knows some basic Mandarin.
She earned a diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Later, she studied Political Science and Communication Studies. This was at the University of Western Australia in 2006. In 2010, she received a Master's degree in Film and Television. This was from Curtin University of Technology in Perth.
While she was studying in Perth, Hazlina would come back to Singapore. She worked in the newsroom during her school breaks.
Hazlina's Career Journey
Hazlina started her media career with an internship. This was at Ria 89.7FM during her last year at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She was asked to be a part-time announcer.
Soon after, Hazlina appeared on MediaCorp Suria in 2005. She was on TGIF, a weekly show. It covered current events, lifestyle, music, food, and community topics.
Just three months after her TV debut, Hazlina hosted Pesta Perdana 2005. This was a live awards show. It celebrated Singapore's Malay Television Industry. She hosted it with Najip Ali, Rima Melati Adams, and Khairudin Saharom.
In October 2005, Hazlina started presenting Berita. This is MediaCorp Suria's main news program. She joined the news team as a journalist in February 2006. She then left to continue her university studies.
From 2011 to 2014, Hazlina taught at Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business. She taught in the Diploma of Communications and Media Management program. At the same time, she continued to present the Malay news program, Berita, on Suria.
She joined CNA in 2015 as an Assignments Editor. She helped plan news coverage for the Singapore Desk. She also kept presenting Berita on Fridays.
After working in media for 15 years, Hazlina moved to Public Affairs.
On 5 December 2020, Hazlina became the President of Persatuan Pemudi Islam Singapura (PPIS). This is also known as the Singapore Muslim Women's Association. PPIS is a group that helps Muslim women, children, and families. They do this through many community programs.
Hazlina then moved to work in social impact. She became the CEO of Make-A-Wish Singapore. She also led the Asia-Pacific region for the charity.
Entering Politics
Hazlina was first seen helping Tin Pei Ling in MacPherson in 2024. Later, she was seen at an event in Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC in March 2025. This suggested she might run in the 2025 Singaporean general election.
It was confirmed on 12 April that Hazlina would run in the East Coast GRC. She took the place of Maliki Osman in his division. The PAP party won East Coast GRC with 58.76% of the votes.
