Becoming a Priest

In 1924, Hector Gooderham was ordained as a priest. This means he officially became a minister in the church. His first job was as a curate at St Mary's Cathedral, Glasgow. A curate is like an assistant priest, learning and helping with church duties.

Church Leadership Roles

After his time in Glasgow, Hector Gooderham took on more leadership roles. He became the Rector of St John's Church in Selkirk. A rector is the main priest in charge of a church and its community. Later, he served as the rector at St Baldred's Church in North Berwick.

Provost of St Mary's Cathedral

One of his most important positions was becoming the Provost of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh. He started this role in 1949. The Provost is the head priest of a cathedral, which is a very important church. He held this significant position for seven years, until 1956.

Later Life and Retirement
