History of the Heisey House

The Heisey House was built around 1831. Dr. John Henderson from Huntington County had it built. It was designed as a brick farmhouse. The bricks for the house were brought into town on canal boats. Dr. Henderson was related to a local landowner named John Fleming.

Early Owners and Uses

Jerry Church, the person who founded Lock Haven, lived in the house when it was a tavern. Roger Develing and his son John, who came from Ireland, owned the tavern. After Jerry Church, Dr. William J. Henderson bought the house in 1852. He used it as his medical office.

The Heisey Family and Later Use

The Heisey family owned the house for many years. They bought it in 1875. They kept it until 1960. At that time, the Clinton County Historical Society took over ownership.

Today, the Clinton County Historical Society uses the Heisey House as its main office. They also run it as a museum. The house still looks much like it did in the mid-1800s. Inside, you can see furniture from the Victorian era. There are also old items found in the area displayed in the house's ice house.
