Helen Hunt Falls is a popular spot for visitors. It is easy to reach, located right off North Cheyenne Canyon Road. This road is inside the North Cheyenne Canyon Park.

Visiting the Falls

There is a parking area near the falls. It can hold about 30 cars. During summer, many locals and tourists visit the canyon. Because of this, the parking lot often gets full early in the day.

You can also hike to the falls. The Columbine Trail starts at the park's entrance. This is near the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center. The trail ends right at Helen Hunt Falls.

Hiking Beyond the Falls

If you want to explore more, you can hike above Helen Hunt Falls. A moderately steep trail goes up for about 2/3 of a mile (about 1.1 kilometers). This path leads to another beautiful waterfall called Silver Cascade Falls.

Who Was Helen Hunt Jackson?

The falls are named after a famous person. Her name was Helen Maria Hunt Jackson (1830–1885). She was a well-known United States poet and writer.

Helen Hunt Jackson also became an activist. She worked to improve how the U.S. government treated Native Americans. She passed away in San Francisco, California in 1885. Later, she was buried in Colorado Springs.
