The Hellinsia cristobalis is a type of moth that belongs to the Pterophoridae family. You can find this special moth on the Galapagos Islands.
What it Looks Like
This moth is quite small. Its wingspan is usually between 13 and 16 millimeters. That's about half an inch!
Wings and Body
The moth's antennae have stripes of dark brown and white. Its body, called the thorax, has scales that are beige at the bottom and greyish-brown at the top. The sides of the thorax are white near the end.
The front wings are mostly light brown at the base and darker brown at the tips. They also have tiny white scales mixed in. The back wings and their fuzzy edges are a greyish-brown color.
Where and When it Lives
The Hellinsia cristobalis moth lives on the famous Galapagos Islands. These islands are known for their unique animals.
You can usually spot adult moths flying around in February and November. Sometimes, they might also be seen in December.
