Henderson Lake: North America's Rainiest Spot
Henderson Lake is famous for one amazing reason: it's the wettest place in North America! This means it gets more rain and other forms of precipitation than almost anywhere else on the continent.
Why is Henderson Lake So Wet?
Data collected from a fish hatchery near Henderson Lake shows just how much rain falls there. The lake is in a unique spot that causes it to receive a huge amount of precipitation every year.
Record-Breaking Rainfall
On average, Henderson Lake gets about 6,903 millimeters (that's almost 23 feet!) of rain each year. To give you an idea, that's like having a small swimming pool's worth of water fall from the sky over every square meter!
In 1997, the rainfall was even more incredible. Henderson Lake set an all-time Canadian record with 9,307 millimeters of precipitation. That's over 30 feet of rain in just one year! Imagine how green and lush the area around the lake must be with all that water.
