A House with a Long History
Its First Home
This historic house was first built way back in the early 1700s. It was located in a town called Chester, Pennsylvania. The house belonged to a Swedish farmer named Andrew Hendrickson and his wife, Brigitta Morton. Both Andrew and Brigitta were born in a place called New Sweden. This was an early Swedish colony in North America.
A Big Move
Many years later, in 1958, the Hendrickson House was carefully moved. It traveled from Chester, Pennsylvania, all the way to Wilmington, Delaware. Imagine moving an entire house! This was done to protect its history.
Part of a Special Place
Today, the Hendrickson House is part of the Old Swedes Historic Site. This important site also includes the famous Holy Trinity Church (Old Swedes). This church was built between 1698 and 1699. There is also a burial ground there that dates back to 1638. The whole site is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. This means it's a very important place in American history.
