Henri-César de Castellane-Majastre (born 1733, died 1789) was a brave French naval officer and a member of a noble family. He was also a landowner. He is remembered for his service in the French Navy, especially during the American Revolutionary War.

Early Life and Family
Henri-César de Castellane-Majastre was born in a town called Riez, in France, on March 28, 1733. He came from a noble French family known as the House of Castellane. His father was César-Henri de Castellane, and his mother was Agathe de Martin.
Henri-César chose a career in the French Navy. He started as a junior officer, called a Garde de la Marine, in 1749. He worked his way up, becoming a Lieutenant in 1762 and a Captain in 1775.
Serving in the American Revolutionary War
Castellane-Majastre played an important part in the American Revolutionary War. In 1778, he was in charge of a 32-gun warship called the Flore.
Later, in 1781, he joined a group of ships led by Admiral Grasse. They sailed from Brest, France, to Martinique. He helped in the Invasion of Tobago on May 30, 1781. This campaign was part of the events that led to the capture of British General Cornwallis.
Castellane-Majastre also fought in two very important battles:
- The Battle of the Chesapeake on September 5, 1781.
- The Siege of Yorktown on October 19, 1781. These battles were key moments in the war.
In April 1782, he commanded a large 74-gun ship called the Marseillais during the Battle of Saint Kitts. A month later, in May 1782, he served with the fleet of Louis-Philippe de Vaudreuil.
Later Achievements
In October 1782, he was honored for his service by being inducted into the Society of the Cincinnati. He also received 800 pounds from them. On October 1, 1784, he was promoted to Chef d'escadre, which is a high rank in the French Navy, similar to a Rear Admiral.
Personal Life
Henri-César de Castellane-Majastre married Marie Claire de Montolieu. They had two sons:
- Charles de Castellane (1783-1857)
- César Elzéar de Castellane, who became the Count of Castellane-Majastres (1784-1835)
He passed away on May 5, 1789, in his hometown of Riez, France.
Legacy
A famous square in the city of Marseille, called Place Castellane, is named in his honor.
