Henrik Linder (born March 16, 1985) is a talented Swedish musician. He is best known as the bass player for the band Dirty Loops, which is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Henrik studied music at the Royal College of Music. There, he met and teamed up with singer and pianist Jonah Nilsson, and drummer Aron Mellergårdh. Together, they created the band Dirty Loops. Since the band started, Henrik has played on their first album, Loopified. He has also toured with famous artists like David Foster and Maroon 5.

Early Life and Musical Start

Henrik Linder was born in Sweden. He began playing the piano when he was just four years old. As he grew up, he listened to music his older sister enjoyed. This included bands like Soundgarden, which he liked because of their interesting rhythms.

When Henrik was about 13 years old, he decided to switch to playing the bass guitar. One of his first bass heroes was Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He loved their song "Aeroplane". Later, Henrik discovered groups like The Brecker Brothers and Tribal Tech, which featured Gary Willis on bass. Gary Willis became one of his biggest influences. Henrik also took lessons from a local Swedish bass player named Robert Sundin. By the time he was 16, Henrik was already a busy musician in Stockholm, playing with many different groups.

Henrik went to secondary school at Södra Latin. After that, he studied jazz at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. While studying, he often practiced and jammed with his childhood friend and drummer, Aron Mellergårdh. Later, Aron and Henrik started working with another classmate and friend, pianist and singer Jonah Nilsson. Their musical teamwork led to the creation of Dirty Loops in 2008.

Dirty Loops and Career Highlights

After many jam sessions, Henrik, Aron, and Jonah began to rearrange and change modern pop songs. In 2010, Dirty Loops uploaded their unique version of Lady Gaga's song, "Just Dance". This video quickly became very popular, getting over 100,000 views on YouTube and 10,000 shares on Facebook in just two months. By 2014, the video had over 19 million views, becoming a huge hit without any special advertising.

After this success, the band continued to release more cover videos. These included their versions of Justin Bieber’s "Baby" and Adele’s "Rolling in the Deep". Henrik's bass playing on "Baby" was especially noticed, getting 125,000 views very quickly after it was put online.

As Dirty Loops kept making videos, many people in the music industry noticed their unique sound. Andreas Carlson, a producer and songwriter in Los Angeles, signed the band to a management deal. Also, famous producer and songwriter David Foster signed Dirty Loops to Verve Records. He even took them on his 2012 tour across Asia.

David Foster encouraged the band to create their own original songs, not just covers. Because of this, Dirty Loops released their first album, Loopified, in 2014. The band’s first original song, "Hit Me," was the first track on the album. It became very popular in Japan when it was released as a single in 2014.

In November 2014, Henrik Linder was recognized for his amazing bass playing. He won the Young Gun award from Bass Player Magazine at a show in San Francisco, CA.

In February 2015, Dirty Loops joined the band Maroon 5 for their tour supporting the album V. Dirty Loops performed in Australia for the first time and played in different parts of Asia during this tour.

Henrik's Playing Style

Henrik Linder is known for using many different techniques when he plays the bass. Since Dirty Loops is a trio without a guitar player, Henrik uses various chords and inversions (different ways to play chords) to create new sounds. This helps fill the musical space alongside the piano parts.

Henrik also uses different slapping techniques and improvises a lot in his solos. One way he practices is by using loops of different rhythms and speeds that are not perfectly "in time." This helps him challenge himself and improve his playing in areas where he might be weaker, helping him develop a unique sound. Henrik also improved his techniques by learning bebop melodies and classical pieces like Bach Inventions.

Henrik is also famous for his bass tone (the specific sound of his instrument). He found a creative way to get his sound even though a part of his Yamaha bass was broken for eight years. He learned new ways to make notes sound strong and clear. He also uses very light strings and controls the volume of his amplifier to play with different levels of loudness, making his music more exciting.

Gear Henrik Uses

Henrik Linder plays two Mattison basses: one with six strings and one with five strings, which he uses for slapping. He also uses his old Yamaha TRB6P bass. For his strings, he uses DR STRINGS Pure Blues.

For his amplifiers, Henrik uses three EBS TD 660 heads. He connects these to six EBS Proline 4x10 speaker cabinets, which create a stereo sound setup.

Henrik also uses several TC Electronic pedals to change his sound. These include the Flashback delay, Hall of Fame Reverb, Corona Chorus, MojoMojo Overdrive, Vortex flanger, and Polytune classic.
