Henry FitzRoy was an important British nobleman and politician who lived from 1790 to 1863. He held the title of the 5th Duke of Grafton. A "Duke" is a very high-ranking noble title, usually passed down through families. Before he became Duke, he was known as Viscount Ipswich and later Earl of Euston.

Early Life and Family
Henry FitzRoy was born on February 10, 1790, in Southill, England. His father was George FitzRoy, 4th Duke of Grafton, and his mother was Lady Charlotte Maria Waldegrave. His grandfather was James Waldegrave, 2nd Earl Waldegrave.
Henry had several siblings. His son, William, later became the 6th Duke of Grafton. Another son, Augustus, became the 7th Duke.
Marriage and Children
Henry FitzRoy married Mary Caroline Berkeley on June 20, 1812, in Portugal. Mary was the daughter of Admiral Sir George Cranfield Berkeley. They had five children together:
- Lady Mary Elizabeth Emily Fitzroy (1817–1887)
- Maria Louisa Fitzroy (1818–1912)
- William Henry FitzRoy, 6th Duke of Grafton (1819–1882)
- Augustus Charles Lennox FitzRoy, 7th Duke of Grafton (1821–1918)
- Frederick John Fitzroy (1823–1919)
Political Career
Henry FitzRoy was a Member of Parliament (MP), which means he was elected to represent people in the British government. He was part of the Whig political party.
He served as an MP for two different areas:
- Bury St Edmunds: He represented this area from 1818 to 1820, and again from 1826 to 1831.
- Thetford: He represented Thetford from 1834 to 1841.
Military Service
Besides his political work, Henry FitzRoy also had a role in the military. On May 24, 1830, he was made a colonel in the West Suffolk Militia. The Militia was a group of citizens trained for military service, often used for local defense.
Later Life and Death
Henry FitzRoy passed away on March 26, 1863, when he was 73 years old. He died at Wakefield Lodge, which was near Potterspury in Northamptonshire, England.
