William Henry FitzRoy, 6th Duke of Grafton (born August 5, 1819 – died May 21, 1882) was an important person in British society and politics. He was known by different titles during his life. First, he was called Viscount Ipswich until 1847. Then, he became Earl of Euston from 1847 to 1863.
He was born in London, England. William Henry FitzRoy went to a famous school called Harrow. After that, he studied at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. This college trains people to become army officers.

His Family Background
William Henry FitzRoy was the son of Henry FitzRoy, 5th Duke of Grafton. His mother was Mary Caroline Berkeley. They got married in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 20, 1812.
At that time, his father was an officer in the army. He was fighting alongside the famous Duke of Wellington in a war called the Peninsular War. This war was fought in Spain and Portugal.
What Was His Political Career Like?
William Henry FitzRoy became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1847. An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the British Parliament. He was elected without anyone running against him for the area of Thetford in Norfolk.
His father had also been the MP for Thetford before him. William Henry FitzRoy was re-elected three more times without opposition. He kept his seat in Parliament until 1863. That year, he inherited his father's title and became the Duke of Grafton.
His Marriage and Health
On February 10, 1858, William Henry FitzRoy married Marie Anne Louise Baring. She was the daughter of Francis Baring, 3rd Baron Ashburton.
Both William and Marie had health problems. Because of this, they spent the colder months of winter and spring each year in a warmer place called Hyères. This town is located in France.
His Role in the Military
In 1860, he was given an important role in the military. He was made a lieutenant-colonel. This meant he was in charge of the 1st Administrative Battalion of Northamptonshire Rifle Volunteers. This group was made up of volunteers who trained to defend their country.
His Later Life and Death
William Henry FitzRoy passed away in London in 1882. He was 62 years old. He did not have any children.
After his death, his younger brother, Augustus, became the 7th Duke of Grafton.
