Henry Houghton Hill (born May 29, 1882 – died February 9, 1951) was an Irish architect. He was known for his work in County Cork, Ireland.

Who Was Henry Houghton Hill?

Henry Houghton Hill came from a well-known family of architects in Cork. An architect is someone who designs buildings. His father, Arthur Hill, was also an architect. His grandfather, Henry Hill, was an architect too.

A Family of Architects

Architecture was a family tradition for the Hills. Henry Houghton's uncles, William Henry Hill and Arthur Richard Hill, were architects. His cousin, William Henry Hill Jr, also designed buildings. Henry Houghton Hill's daughter, Myrtle Allen, became famous in a different field. She was a Michelin star chef!

His Education and Career

Henry Houghton Hill was a very bright student. In 1905, he was the first student ever to earn a special degree in Architecture. He received this degree with honours from Liverpool University School of Architecture.

A few years later, in 1909, he started working with his father. They designed many buildings together. Like his father, Henry Houghton also taught architecture. He lectured at University College Cork, sharing his knowledge with new students.

Serving His Country

During World War I, Henry Houghton Hill joined the military. He served as an officer in the Royal Engineers. This group was responsible for important engineering tasks during the war.
