Early Life and Joining the Navy

Henry Palmer was born in 1582. His father, also named Henry Palmer, was a Rear-Admiral in the Royal Navy. Following in his father's footsteps, young Henry joined the Royal Navy.

Important Naval Roles

In 1625, after a military trip called the Cádiz Expedition, Palmer was put in charge of ships in an area known as the Downs. This was an important place for ships to anchor safely. In 1632, he received a big promotion. He was appointed Comptroller of the Navy. This role was like being the chief manager for the navy's resources. He oversaw its finances and supplies.

A Difficult Time

In 1642, England was facing a difficult period. King Charles I and the Parliament were in conflict. Sir John Penington, who represented the King, ordered Sir Henry Palmer to move the navy's ships to Scarborough. However, Sir Henry Palmer was quite old and unwell at this time. He was too frail to fully understand the orders. Because of this, the ships were taken over by the parliamentary forces instead.

Later Life

Sir Henry Palmer passed away two years later in 1644. He lived at a place called Howletts in Kent, England.
