Henry Rowe (1812 – 1870) was an architect from Ireland. He worked in the 1800s in places like Massachusetts, New York, and Maine. One of his most famous buildings is The Gothic House in Portland, Maine. It was built in 1845. This house is a great example of Gothic Revival architecture. It's thought to be the first building Rowe designed in Maine.

The Gothic House looks much like it did when it was new. It was moved in 1971 to save it from being torn down. In 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list helps protect important historical buildings. Another building, 49 Main Street in Yarmouth, Maine, was also built by Rowe in 1845.

Early Life and Training

Henry Rowe was born in 1812 in Kinsale, Ireland. He studied architecture under a teacher named George Richard Pain. Pain was a well-known architect in Cork, Ireland. Around 1840, Henry Rowe moved to the United States.
