Henry Albert White (born August 8, 1895 – died November 27, 1972) was an English footballer. People sometimes called him Bert White. He played as a centre forward, which is a player whose main job is to score goals. Henry played for several well-known clubs during his career, including Brentford, Arsenal, and Blackpool.

Henry White's Football Journey

Early Career and World War I

Henry White was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. He started his football career playing for Brentford as an amateur. This means he played for the love of the game, not as a paid professional.

However, his football journey was paused by World War I. Henry served in the military as a private in the Royal Fusiliers and later as a lance corporal in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Even while serving, he remained connected to Brentford.

Joining Arsenal and Becoming a Top Scorer

Henry was discharged from the military in February 1919. Soon after, he joined Arsenal, a team that had just been promoted back to the top division of English football. He made his first appearance for Arsenal on August 30, 1919, in their very first match back in the First Division against Newcastle United.

Henry quickly became known as a good goal scorer. In the 1919–20 season, he was Arsenal's top scorer with fifteen goals in the league. Arsenal finished 10th that season. His strong performance even led to him being considered for the England national team, though he never played in an official match for them.

After a quieter season in 1920–21, where he scored 10 goals, Henry bounced back in the next season. He scored 19 goals, making him Arsenal's top scorer once again. Despite his efforts, the team finished 17th due to a weak defence.

Moving On to Other Clubs

In the 1922–23 season, Henry's form, and Arsenal's, dipped. He was replaced by another player in November 1922 and was then sold to Blackpool in March 1923. In total, he played 109 games for Arsenal and scored 45 goals.

After leaving Arsenal, Henry played for many different teams. This is sometimes called a "journeyman's career." Besides Blackpool, he played for Fulham, Walsall (twice), Nelson, Stafford Rangers, and Thames. He stopped playing football in 1930.

Cricket Career

Henry White was also a talented cricketer. He played eight first-class cricket matches for Warwickshire in 1923. He also played for his home county, Hertfordshire, in 1921.

Henry White passed away in 1972 at the age of 77.
