Herbert Best was born on March 25, 1894. He later married another author named Erick Berry. She was also known as Allena Champlin. Herbert Best studied at Queens' College, Cambridge. There, he earned degrees in both arts and law.
His Writing Career
Herbert Best wrote many books between the 1930s and the 1960s. A lot of his stories were for children. His wife, Erick Berry, often drew the pictures for his books.
One of his most famous books was Garram the Hunter: A Boy of the Hill Tribes. It was published in 1930. This book was so good that it won a special award called a Newbery Honor in 1931. He also wrote a science fiction book called The Twenty-Fifth Hour in 1940.

Besides writing, Herbert Best had an interesting life. He fought in World War I. He also worked for the British government in Nigeria, Africa. His time in Africa gave him many ideas for his stories.
