Herbert London's Career
After finishing his studies, London started working at New York University. In 1972, he helped create a new program called "University Without Walls" (UWW). This program was special because it allowed students to learn in new ways, outside of traditional classrooms. It also let them study different subjects together.
In 1976, UWW changed its name to the Gallatin Division. Students in this program could design their own study plans and didn't have to take specific classes. London led this program until 1992. After that, he became a professor at NYU. The Gallatin Division is now called the Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
London also led the Hudson Institute from 1997 to 2011. He was also a senior expert at the Center for the American University and led the National Association of Scholars. In 2013, he joined a group called the Coalition to Reduce Spending.

Herbert London's Political Campaigns
London became a Republican in New York in 1978. He was seen as a strong conservative, sometimes working with the New York State Republican Party and sometimes disagreeing with them.
Running for Mayor of New York City (1989)
In 1989, London wanted to run for Mayor of New York City. He sought to be the candidate for both the Conservative Party and the Republican Party. However, another person, Ronald Lauder, was chosen by the Conservatives. London then decided not to run in the Republican primary election.
Running for Governor of New York (1990)
In 1990, London ran for Governor of New York as the candidate for the Conservative Party. This time, the Conservative Party chose not to support the Republican candidate, Pierre Rinfret. London finished very close behind Rinfret in the election. The person who won the election was Mario Cuomo, who was re-elected for his third term.
Running for New York Comptroller (1994)
After the 1990 election, London started thinking about running for Governor again in 1994. However, he later decided to run for state Comptroller instead. The Comptroller is like the state's chief accountant, managing its money.
London faced Carl McCall in this election. The race was very competitive. McCall won the election, becoming the first African American person elected to a statewide office in New York.
The London Center for Policy Research
The London Center for Policy Research (LCPR) is a special kind of group called a think tank. Herbert London started it in 2012 in New York City. This center does research and gives advice on important topics like national security, how countries get along, energy, and understanding risks.
The center aims to question common ideas and help people understand policy issues better. It also works to support ideas that are good for the United States and its allies. Many people from the London Center worked with the Trump Administration, taking on different roles. Some of the people who are part of the center include Deroy Murdock, Gordon G. Chang, and Monica Crowley.
