Hereford, Minnesota facts for kids
Hereford was once a small town in Grant County, Minnesota. Today, it is known as an extinct town or a "ghost town" because it no longer exists as a populated place.
Hereford's Story
The town of Hereford was officially planned and laid out, a process called platting, in 1887. This happened when a new railroad line was built through the area. The community got its name from the many Hereford cattle that grazed in the local fields.
A post office opened in Hereford in 1888, helping people send and receive mail. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1923. By the 1940s, the town of Hereford had completely disappeared. The only thing left of the original town is its cemetery, which still remains today.
